The industrial organization being proposed for the DB4RAIL project has significant and complementary experience in the field of rail and satellite based services.

In particular:

  • RAL is a non-profit research organisation that is involved since 2011 into high integrity GNSS and multi-barer TLC networks innovative projects for rail. They have contributed to the development and testing of the world’s first SIL-4 Localization System and to ESA 3InSat and SBS projects. RAL major products are 3InSim, a tool for predicting and assessing SIL-4 performance of GNSS systems in rail environment, and Train Integrity monitoring applications for ERTMS Level 3;
  • ASTS is a major player in the world for the design and delivery of Signalling products and Turn-key systems. They have been contracted important projects to deliver satellite-based train control systems with GNSS and Satellite TLC. In Europe, ASTS is the coordinator of the NGTC WP-7 Satellite Task and the leader of the IP-2 of the Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking;
  • QAS is an engineering SME focused on GNSS and security, pioneering the GNSS authentication in the civil domain since 2004. Extensive work on GNSS authentication and security has been performed in the civil domain at system level (both data and signal) and user level. Current activities with ESA involve the development of new algorithms for GNSS authentication both at signal and receiver level. The work includes, among the others, the refinement of QAS’s GNSS fully software simulator, GNSS software receiver, signal authentication algorithms (e.g. Navigation Message Authentication, Signal Authentication Sequence) and receiver authentication algorithms (e.g. CoM, skewness, RAIM, inertial sensors, signal inconsistencies, non-deterministic signals).
  • RFI is the Italian Railways Infrastructure Manager, the first adopter of ERTMS on high-speed lines and partner of 3InSat and ERSAT for promoting and validating satellite-based technology in the ERTMS evolution.
